Edna Brown

Edna Brown was born in 1875. As a child her parents did not allow her to visit the public library due to her poor health and the perception of germs at the public library. Regardless, she grew to love libraries and went on to receive a degree in Library Science from New York State Library School. Once she graduated she was employed as the head librarian at Memorial Hall Library in Andover.

During her tenure there she was responsible for a number of worthwhile changes. She added a children’s room, increased library hours, oversaw a major addition in 1957, increased the book volume from 17,000 to 100,000 and so much more.

On top of this, she wrote over 15 books in here lifetime. Some of her most popular, which you can still find at Memorial Library, include "How many miles to Babylon?" and "Four Gordons."

Without Edna Brown, the Memorial Hall Library would not be where it is today, providing access to resources to create a new generation of book lovers.
